On 18 June, Jimini AI brought together its community of lawyers, in-house legal teams and industry experts to discuss an issue that has become central to the profession: legal AI will be sovereign, or it will not be. Every quarter, these breakfasts bring together members of the profession to discuss the major transformations under way and compare their perspectives.
For this third event, Jimini was delighted to welcome Léon Del Forno, Julie Pasternak, Olivier Chaduteau and Frédéric Levaux, who shared their analyses of this subject.

Sovereignty is now a decisive criterion when choosing an AI tool
One conclusion emerged during the discussions: sovereignty is no longer merely one technical criterion among many. For numerous law firms and in-house legal teams, it is becoming an essential condition before a legal artificial intelligence solution is even deployed.
It now determines whether AI is adopted, particularly for sensitive matters, tenders, clients with stringent confidentiality requirements and regulated environments. Law firms and in-house legal teams can no longer overlook this issue when choosing a legal AI co-pilot: it now forms part of their selection criteria alongside performance and ease of use.
Hosting, GDPR and control over data: concrete requirements
The discussions identified the concrete criteria that now shape decisions to adopt legal AI. Hosting in France, GDPR safeguards, control over the data-processing chain and independence from large non-European platforms are now central to those decisions.
These requirements are no longer the sole concern of technical or IT teams. Lawyers and in-house legal teams address them directly, incorporating the criteria into their own selection processes, particularly when responding to tenders themselves or advising clients subject to enhanced confidentiality obligations.
A quarterly event for the profession
Jimini designed the AI Breakfast as a regular event for the legal profession: a forum where lawyers, in-house legal teams and industry experts can compare their experiences and anticipate developments in the legal AI market instead of being subject to them.
Jimini thanks its four speakers for the quality of their contributions and all the participants for the richness of the morning's discussions.
